February has so many special days! We learned about Groundhog's Day, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, and President's Day. We also celebrated the 100th Day of School on February 3rd. Here are some of the decorations up in our classroom this month!

This is my favorite time of the year to decorate the classroom. We have so many colorful projects that go along with our Social Studies unit to learn about holidays around the world. Hope you like our decorations!

During the month of November, we learn all about the very first Thanksgiving. We learn about Pilgrims and Native Americans, turkeys, and we share about everything that we are thankful for. This month's classroom decoration shows some of our November projects! Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite times of the year because of all the festive holidays coming up! We have Halloween, and then Thanksgiving, and after that we have Christmas and all the other Winter holidays! I had a lot of fun decorating the class with student artwork and fake spiderwebs =) Also in this slideshow are pictures of the students during literacy centers on Wednesdays. Enjoy!

For those of you that don't know, in my spare time, I am actively involved with a hip hop dance ministry called Eight Count (www.eightcount.com). We do several performances a year and we've even performed at Eaton before! This past summer, I decided to go on my very first missions trip to Kenya with some dancers from Eight Count and some other members from my church, Great Exchange Covenant Church (www.grx.org). We were there for 2 weeks, and everyday, we worked with children from public schools, private schools, and orphanages. We brought crafts, games, stories, and dance to the kids there, and we also trained the teachers how to lead different types of lessons with the kids. If you want a detailed account of our entire adventure to Kenya, please visit my Kenya blog at: gracetokenya.blogspot.com
Here is my dance group, Eight Count's, performance for Easter 2010. We used the song, Blessed Be Your Name, by Tree 63, to tell a story about a soldier and his wife. The lyrics of this song are really powerful, "You give and take away," showing us that in every moment, we have so much to be thankful for because it might not last. Just like one day it's sunny, and the next day it rains, our lives change that quickly too. All we can do is appreciate all the blessings we do have at any given moment, and just smile.
My dance group, Eight Count, performed at last week's Sunday service. Our newest set is called "Life" and we just had a lot of fun dancing through the ages.
In October 2008, Eight Count was asked to perform at the Bay Area HIM conference in Fremont. In the last few weeks of preparation, we found out that they actually wanted us to perform two different routines, not just the one that we had been preparing. Therefore, our wedding dance to "I Can Only Imagine" was brought up as a possible option... except with a major modification in the storyline. Instead of being the happy James & Grace Wedding Dance, Eight Count modified it to being a sad, but hopefully inspiring, dance piece. Something very different then what Grace is used to... but hope you are blessed by it.
Our photographer, Scott Roberts, did a great job following us around during our wedding day. He took so many pictures, and then made a slideshow for us. Hope you enjoy it!
Mrs. Yu and her husband surprised the guests with a second dance later in the evening, a hip hop dance to Canon in D (remixed). Her friends from Eight Count joined in again!
This is Mrs. Yu's first dance with her husband at her wedding reception on June 21, 2008. Her friends from Eight Count joined in halfway through the dance to celebrate with them!
Miss Yu performed with her dance group, Eight Count (www.eightcount.com) at the International Day Festival. Eight Count performs throughout the year primarily dancing hip hop or step.
Here is a hip hop routine that Eight Count performed at San Jose State in February 2007 for an Invisible Children fundraiser.
On March 13, 2007, our class was invited to present our Kindness Projects to the Cupertino District Board members. Several students participated in the seven-minute presentation, giving a description about our journals, use of technology in the classroom, and effort to spread kindness around us. Our online journals can be viewed at kindness.pbwiki.com . We were fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity!
